Bicycle Safety
What would a kid's summer be without a bike to ride? The freedom to go where you
want, when you want; the excitement of exploring the neighborhood -- bicycles and
summertime go hand-in-hand! But before kids even start pedaling, here are some things they
need to know:
Common Sense Safety Rules
- Only one person at a time on a bike.
- Ride only on flat, level surfaces.
- Keep hands and feet away from moving parts of the bike.
- Maintain a safe speed at all times.
- Make sure your bike is the right size for you.
- When crossing streets, cross with the green light or walk signal, and should walk bikes
across the street.
- Ride bikes with, not against, the flow of traffic.
- Every child under the age of 16 is required by law to wear a bike helmet.
Hand Signals Make sure your family knows these hand signals.
